Sitting on Top of the World

Soooo.... It's been quite a while since I updated my blog. Sorry readers! This past weekend, I had the flu, so my host mom refused to let me leave the house! I started blogging again, but I kept getting distracted by Twitter, Facebook, sleep, Skype, and YouTube. *One of my new faves on YouTube is Mr. Chi City's videos - hilarious! My fave video is when he becomes a Dollar Menu Millionaire. Parental guidance suggested. Rated PG-13 for language.*

But I'm back!!! There is a lot to catch up on...

Two weekends ago (January 23rd), I went to San Sebastian with some school friends. It was an hour long bus ride away, so we decided to take a quick little day trip. San Sebastian was beautiful to say the least. It reminded me of one of those cute little resort cities. Also, apparently, it is in the running to be the European Capital of Culture.

It was a little chilly!

After we left the beach, we decided to go to this castle... on a mountain.

So, I'm looking up at this castle wondering where the elevator is that will take me up it. No no no. Kassandra has to climb this mountain. So we begin the trek up the mountain, filled with steep slopes and stairs.

*cue Miley Cyrus' "The Climb"*

Then, we got to a part of the path that has been closed off due to falling rock. So, we decide to just go back down right? Nope! We climbed literally up the side of the mountain to the next level of the path. Clearly I'm overexaggerating a little because it was like two large steps up, but I suck at those indoor climbing walls! lol. But I did it! Yay! And believe me, once I got to the top, I was sooo glad I did! Here are some of the views:

Oh hey JC!

It was honestly breathtaking! Sometimes when I see such beautiful things here, I get mad that we don't have beauty like this in the US! At least I haven't found it yet. But it's great to experience it nonetheless.

After going back down the mountain, we got something to eat after working up an appetite. After lunch, we walked around the city a little more. In a random plaza, we found these little girls doing the Hoedown Throwdown. Lesson of the day: You cannot escape Miley Cyrus. I was tempted to join in though... After they were done with the Hoedown Throwdown, they had some other choreography to other songs such as Beyoncé's "Halo."

There is a group of sculptures called Peine de Viento (Wind Combs) on the edge of the beach so we took a few pictures there.

I also saw the Hotel Maria Christina that my host mom kept raving about. She told me that all of the stars go there for their annual film fest including American actors. It was during these discussions that I learned about her love for Richard Gere lol.

Finally, at the end of the day, we went inside a beautiful cathedral. It was beautiful but I loved the sign outside:

San Sebastian's Cathedral

"...Please turn off your cell phone. You don't need it to talk to God..."

We are planning to go back when the weather is nicer so we can hit the beaches :)

It was a fun day but very long. I stayed in the rest of the night to watch the futbol game with my host dad. Hilarious as usual. He chainsmoked while complaining about how terrible the team was playing. Good times.
